The housing crunch has put the bite on Norcross, Ga.-based wood supply company PlyMart, which is shutting down its 16 lumber yards, including the one in Columbus.
The store at 3812 Cusseta Rd. should wrap up its liquidation this week, with excess building materials being shipped back to PlyMart in Atlanta, Phil Ford, general manager of Columbus lumber yard, said Wednesday.
"So many of the big tract builders that we built a lot with in Atlanta have basically quit building, and just really hurt the company," he said.
PlyMart has two stores next to each other on Cusseta Road. The other one — which specializes in items like garage doors, shelving, mirrors and locksets — will remain open.

The lumber yard employs 25 people, while the specialty store has 20 on the payroll.
