Georgia drivers licenses and IDs will soon get a face lift.
The Department of Driver Services recently announced it has contracted a company specializing in secure identification systems to design, develop and implement a new digitized license card system. These new licenses should be in the wallets of Georgia motorists beginning in early July, 2009.
Digimarc was awarded the six-year contract valued over $40 million dollars after an extensive state bidding process. The Oregon-based company is responsible for creating licenses and IDs that are more secure and harder to counterfeit then the current models. DDS officials said the new cards will also enhance customer service.
