A Columbus man died in a mobile home fire early this morning.
Frederick John Sampson, 24, was pronounced dead at about 2:45 a.m. at the home on Old Cusseta Road, Muscogee County deputy coroner Freeman Worley said.
Sampson's body was discovered after Columbus firefighters extinguished a fire inside the home. He was the only one in the home at the time. The fire, which was reported at around 2 a.m., caused about $15,000 worth of damage, fire investigator Lance Miller said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Worley said he did not see any evidence of foul play at the scene. Sampson's body has been sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta to determine a cause of death.
