A 24-year-old South Carolina man was killed this morning in a motorcycle crash.
Jerell Taylor of Sumpter, S.C. was ejected from the motorcycle he was riding shortly after 1 a.m. when he lost control of the bike and slammed into a brick mailbox in the 2800 block of Summerville Road, Russell County Coroner Arthur L. Sumbry said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:25 a.m., the coroner said.
Phenix City police were apparently pursuing Taylor along Summerville Road prior to the crash, Sumbry said.
Taylor, believed to be a Fort Benning soldier, was wearing a helmet.
His body will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
