Gasoline prices jumped nearly 4 cents overnight in Columbus, continuing the fuel source's record surge.
The average price of regular hit $3.956 per gallon locally today, up from $3.921 per gallon Monday, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report and the Oil Price Information Service.
Columbus gas prices are 31 cents per gallon higher than they were a month ago. They are 98 cents per gallon higher than on June 10 a year ago, when prices had yet to reach $3.
Atlanta and Athens are virtually tied for the highest average price in Georgia today at $4.03 per gallon, all-time highs for both cities.
The state's lowest average can be found in Augusta at $3.92 per gallon.
Diesel fuel prices also spiked sharply higher today in Columbus to nearly $4.762 per gallon, up from $4.71 per gallon Monday and tying the record on May 30.
The U.S. average for regular gas reached a record $4.04 per gallon today, AAA reported, while diesel was $4.79 per gallon.
