A Muscogee County Prison inmate working on a garbage truck fled the work detail on foot this afternoon.
Danial Lee Grubb was on a sanitation truck work detail around 1:30 p.m. at 52nd Street and Abbott Avenue when he escaped, Deputy Warden Ray Covington with the Muscogee County Prison said.
"The officer in charge allowed him to go to the bathroom, and he never came back," Covington said. "He fled on foot."
Officials are using a helicopter and dogs to search the Veterans Parkway and 54th Street Area.
Grubb was serving a five-year sentence for drug possession. His maximum release date was set for August 28, 2010, and he would have been up for parole in September.
Grubb is described as a white male with blue eyes and straight blonde hair. He is 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 265 pounds. He was born in 1973. He has a large tattoo on his right arm, a medium tattoo on his left arm and a tattoo on his neck.
Covington said anyone who knows the whereabouts of Grubb or sees him should call 911 or contact the Muscogee County Prison at 706-561-3220.
