A Muscogee County Prison inmate who escaped from a work detail Thursday afternoon managed to elude authorities but then turned himself in a few hours later.
Daniel Lee Grubb was on a garbage truck detail around 1:30 p.m. near 52nd Street and Abbott Avenue when he fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Authorities scoured the area, but couldn't find the inmate, who was serving five years for drug possession. A few hours later, about 7 p.m., Grubb turned himself in to an unidentified private citizen on 44th Street.
Grubb, who would have been eligible for parole in September, is being held at the Jack T. Rutledge State Prison and will be prosecuted for his escape.
