Even though the Base Realignment and Closure decision to bring the Armor School to Fort Benning won't be fully implemented for another two years, there are a series of meetings planned next week to discuss the impact of BRAC on this area.
The first of the public meetings, sponsored by the Valley Partnership Joint Development Authority, will be held at the Hamilton Club House on Monday at 6:30 p.m.
Muscogee County citizens are invited to attend a Tuesday evening meeting at the Columbus Public Library. It starts at 6 o'clock.
On Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., Russell County residents are invited to the Public Safety Building in Phenix City to discuss BRAC.
Those three counties are the first of 10 in Alabama and Georgia participating in the meetings. Barbour and Lee in Alabama, and Chattahoochee, Marion, Stewart, Talbot and Taylor counties in Georgia, are conducting their public meetings later on this summer. Each public meeting will provide an overview of the Fort Benning Regional Growth Management Plan, its purpose and goals, as well as receive public input on local growth concerns and opportunities.
