Lakewood and Smiths Station Baptist churches are co-sponsoring the Daraja Children's Choir of Africa in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Smiths Station Baptist, 2460 Lee Road 430 in Smiths, Ala.
Daraja means "bridge" in Swahili. The choir is made up of 24 orphans and other vulnerable children from Kenya, who serve as a "bridge" to connect Kenya to America. Many of the choir members have never experienced cultures outside of their homeland.
"Seldom in our lifetime are we privileged to experience how God is moving in other countries," said Charles Keown, minister of music at Lakewood. "Seeing these children and experiencing worship with them will open our eyes to see how wonderful God is, and how He truly loves the world."
The choir has two U.S. tours this year.
Never miss a local story.
The choir is part of the 410 Bridge, a non-profit group that focuses on mission work in Kenya. For more information, see www.410bridge.org.
The concert is free. An offering will be taken.
