The Muscogee elections office was on "Glenn Watch" for a few tense moments today as the end of local candidate qualifying neared and no one had heard from Columbus Councilor Glenn Davis.
Elections director Nancy Boren was checking state election law to see what she would have to do if no one qualified for District 2, the north Columbus area Davis represents.
At 11:48 a.m., 12 minutes before qualifying ended at noon, Davis finally came marching in. "I thought I had until 5," he told Boren. Qualifying previously ended at 5 p.m. each day this week, but ends at noon on the last day.
Davis, 47, said he was conducting business in Phenix City this morning when messages on his cell phone began to accrue. "I got about 10 calls from friends all over, saying, 'Where are you?' " he said.
Never miss a local story.
