Two people died Friday in separate vehicle accidents in the area.
Phenix City resident Shirley M. Wilson, 61, was killed in a two-car accident near Hardee's Hamburgers at 1300 Highway 280 Bypass in Phenix City. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:20 p.m. by Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry Jr.
Wilson was driving a 1996 Toyota Corolla which collided with a Mazda pickup truck. Nobody else was badly injured.
On Highway 116 in Harris County, the Georgia State Patrol said a Ford Ranger crossed the center line about 3:30 p.m. Friday and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer truck near O Street in Hamilton.
One person in the Ford Ranger, a resident of the Pine Mountain area, was killed, troopers said. The other, in serious condition, was flown to The Medical Center in Columbus.
Both riders in the truck were juveniles and their names were not released. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
Troopers said speed was not a factor in the accident.
