Georgia state Rep. Vance Smith, R-Pine Mountain was recently elected chairman of a 16-state economic development, transportation and cultural affairs comiitee.
Smith, whose district includes portions of North Columbus, will chair the committee for The Council of State Governments, Southern office, the Southern Leadership Conference.
The committee is one of six SLC standing committees. West Virginia John Unger II was elected vice chairman.
Smith, who owns a Harris Conunty construction company, is chairman of the Georgia House Transportation Committee and has been active in transportation issues during his legislative tenure.
