Columbus police have arrested a man accused of attempted child molestation.
Frank Stuart Thompson of Griffin, Ga., was arrested Saturday, Aug. 16 on Front Avenue and charged with criminal attempt at child molestation, criminal attempt of enticing a child, obscene internet contact with a child and two counts of computer or electronic pornography and child exploitation.
The charges stem from an undercover investigation by the police department's Predator Apprehension Unit. During the course of the investigation, Thompson had numerous Internet chats and telephone conversations with an undercover officer he thought was a 12-year-old girl.
According to a police department press release, many of these chats and conversations were sexual in nature.

He traveled to Columbus and was taken into custody.
Thompson, 39, appeared in Recorder's Court at 9 a.m. this morning. His charges were bound over to Superior Court.
