The keynote speaker at the 62nd annual reunion of Merrill's Marauders, the first American infantrymen to fight the Japanese in Asia during World War II, will be Ranger Hall of Fame inductee Edward A. McLogan.
The event will be held in Atlanta from Aug. 29-31 at the Marriott Atlanta Airport Hotel. Also expected to attend are Georgia Marauders Vincent Melillo, of Columbus and Robert "Bob" D. Eatman from Sharpsburg.
McLogan was a lieutenant in F Co., 2nd Bn., under Col. George A. McGee repeatedly risked his life rallying his men against the Japanese when his battalion was surrounded for two weeks in Burma at Nhpun-Ga.
Formally organized on Jan. 1, 1944 under the name "Fifty-three-0-Seven Composite Unit-Provisional," Merrill's Marauders were considered the predecessors of today's U.S. Army Rangers. The later came to be known as Merrill's Marauders after Gen. Frank D. Merrill.
