The American Cancer Society honored Aflac today for the local company's recent fundraising efforts, which raised more than $500,000.
The organization recognized Aflac, a longtime supporter in the fight against pediatric cancer, with its Visionary award for three major charity events they held in Muscogee County from Sept. 2007 to Aug. 2008.
Through Aflac's golf tournament, Relay for Life and Crystal Ball, the business raised nearly $536,000 to help support cancer research.
Aflac Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dan Amos and Aflac Foundation President Kathelen Amos accepted the 2007-2008 award today during a morning ceremony at the Aflac Tower.
"We are pleased to accept this award on behalf of the Aflac family," Kathelen Amos said in a statement. "Aflac's involvement with and our support of the mission of the local chapter of ACS goes back to our roots and demonstrates a common commitment to provide help and support for cancer patients and their families."
Georgette Porter, ACS senior vice president for Georgia, presented the Amoses with the award.
