A vacant apartment building caught fire early Thursday morning, according to Columbus Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
Deputy Chief Thomas Streeter said firefighters received the call regarding a fire at an empty apartment building at 834 Brooks Road at about 2:50 a.m.
Firefighters arrived on the scene by 2:54 a.m. and were able to get the blaze under control in about 30 to 45 minutes, Streeter said.
The total amount of damages to four units in the building is estimated to be about $80,000. The apartments are owned by Walaway Investors.
No one was injured in the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but Streeter said they believe it may have been started by vagrants. He said there were space heaters in one of the bedrooms, which could have been where the fire was started.
