The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving Lee County Sheriff's officer that occurred in Smiths Station early this morning.
At around 2:45 a.m.., officers received a call in reference to a shooting near Lee Road 240 and Lee Road 2001, according to Capt. Van Jackson with the Lee County Sheriff's office.
Officers stopped a car that matched the description of vehicle involved in several break-ins.
Jackson said there were four people in the vehicle. One person fired at a reserve officer, striking him once in the chest. The officer was wearing a ballistic vest and returned fire.
The suspect was transported to The Medical Center, where he was taken to surgery.
The officer was transported to Jack Hughston Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, where he was treated and released.
The three other people in the vehicle were taken into custody by Lee County Sheriff's Office and are being interviewed.
