A man was killed Wednesday night on Interstate 85 as he was trying to collect his belongings.
The wreck occurred in the southbound lane at 8:05 p.m. CDT at the 59 mile marker, said Lee County Coroner Bill Harris. The man, whose name hasn't been released, had been driving south when some items strapped to the top of his 1998 Jeep Cherokee fell off. He stopped his car and was collecting them when he was struck.
"He stopped in a dark section of the interstate," Harris said.
The man died of multiple blunt force injuries. He was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m.
The person who struck him stopped. Harris said no criminal charges are pending.
