The number of Georgians registered on the Do Not Call List has passed 5 million, the Georgia Public Service Commission has announced.
As of Aug. 1, 2008, more than 5.1 million phone numbers have been registered.
When Georgians register their cell phone or land line numbers with the Federal Do Not Call Registry, their numbers are automatically included in Georgia's list.
Phone numbers stay on the Registry until service is disconnected. Telemarketers are also required to scrub their telemarketing lists against the Federal Do Not Call Registry every 31 days.

The Do Not Call List was established in 1999.
