The Red Cross shelter in Columbus reported Monday morning that 33 evacuees from the Gulf Coast were being housed at Calvary Christian School.
"There are 23 more on the way," West Central Georgia Red Cross chapter spokesperson Mitzi Oxford said about noon.
The shelter at 7556 Old Moon Road opened at 7 p.m. Sunday for people fleeing Hurricane Gustav. It is the only Red Cross shelter open in Columbus.
The Russell County Red Cross chapter has opened a shelter at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. There was no word Monday morning how many people were being housed there.
