The United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley has set a goal of $6.9 million which is $100,000 more than last year.
"If the goal is ambitious, it is because the needs are great, perhaps greater this year thanin previous campaigns," said Abbott Turner, the 2008 Campaign Chair.
"Even though gasoline prices have dropped, they are still higher than a year ago; the costs of many other goods have risen. Each one of us has to adjust to these swings in prices, but if we are working, we must continue to support the United Way. In tougher economic times, the need for critical services increase."
More than 1,100 people atteneded today's kickoff luncheon at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center.
