For the first time, Columbus State University's department of theater will be doing two children's tours.
The first is "Cows Don't Fly and Other Known Facts" and it begins Sept. 16 and ends Dec. 11. But before the cast loads up the van, it will be doing five performances in Columbus this weekend.
"Cows Don't Fly and Other Known Facts" is written by Larry and Vivian Snipes of the Lexington Children's Theatre. It's based on three books -- "The Cow Who Wouldn't Come Down," "The Pig Who Ran a Red Light" and "The Goose Who Went Off in a Huff" -- by Paul Brett Johnson. Though the books are out of print now, they are in many school libraries and are well read.
Because the students are just coming back from summer break, director and theater professor Brenda May Ito decided to rent the sets and costumes from the Lexington Children's Theatre.
Never miss a local story.
The sets are reminiscent of Johnson's original art in the books, so they should be instantly recognizable for the fans of the books, Ito said.
The four young actors (two freshmen and two sophomores) have had a short rehearsal period as well, having started right after auditions on Aug. 21.
