Sgt. Kenneth Mayne, one of two soldiers killed by an explosive device in Iraq on Sept. 4, is not from Fort Benning as the Department of Defense announced.
A family member in Jackson, Ga., confirmed that Mayne, whose home is in Colorado, had spent some time at Fort Benning during his time in the service.
Mayne and Pfc. Bryan Thomas of Battle Creek, Mich. were with a unit based in Fort Hood, Texas.
