With diesel and unleaded fuel flowing into city pumps again, the city of Columbus will resume twice-a-week garbage collection after all.
"This morning we feel good about where we are with fuel," City Manager Isaiah Hugley told the mayor and Columbus Council on Tuesday morning.
On Friday, Hugley said the city would temporarily go to once-a-week garbage collection as Hurricane Ike threathened the Texas coast. With fears from suppliers that fuel could top $5 a gallon and possible shortages, Hugley said the city couldn't determine when it would get deliveries of unleaded and diesel fuel used to operate garbage trucks and police cruisers.
Never miss a local story.
The availability of fuel improved today, he said. "I'm suggesting that we resume normal service."
