Lee County sheriff's officers are looking for a suspect in a bank robbery that occurred Monday afternoon.
Deputies arrived at the Phenix City Girard Bank on Lee Road 430 in Smiths Station yesterday shortly after 4 p.m. CST to find two bank tellers tied up in the bank vault.
According to the clerks, a man entered the bank near closing time and began asking questions about opening an account.
The man pulled out a handgun and demanded money, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Police said after the man forced the clerks into the vault, he made one of the clerks fill a bag with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect left the clerks inside the vault and fled the business.
The clerks were not injured during the robbery.
The suspect is described as a man in his mid to late 20s, standing about 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, and weighing approximately 160 to 180 lbs. He was wearing a long sleeve blue shirt and blue pants with a blue baseball cap.
