Get off the couch, grab a colorful bed sheet and make your "Animal House"-inspired dreams a reality.
Among this weekend's best bets for the 21 and older crowd is a toga party Friday at the popular downtown Columbus nightclub The Vault. Party band Beeramid will entertain.
The Vault is also one of the many bars participating in a Friday bar crawl on Broadway. One cover charge — usually between $7 and $10 — gets you into all the included venues.
If you're looking to party beyond the confines of downtown Friday, a good bet is Broadstreet Blues (913 Broad St., Phenix City). For a $5 cover charge, you'll get all-night entertainment by house band Peggy Jenkins and the Rhythm Roosters. Peggy's version of Etta James' "At Last" is priceless.
Never miss a local story.
Saturday, the party buzz will likely be all about Summer Side Show at the Bradley Theater. Now in its fifth year, the $15 event showcases 32 bands in 12 hours. The action kicks off at 11 a.m., and some 1,200 concert goers are expected to attend.
A top pick for live music later that night? Scruffy Murphy's. The downtown Columbus bar will host Lixx, an Atlanta-based party band whose female members sport Catholic schoolgirl uniforms on the act's Web site.
If that isn't an incentive to check them out, I don't know what is.
