Sure, some people got awards, but the biggest news at Sunday's MTV Movie Awards was Paris Hilton, who flaunted her token smug smile just hours before checking into the Los Angeles County Jail.
Hilton, wearing a ruffled black dress and jewels, told reporters, "I'm really scared but I'm ready to face my sentence. Even though this is a really hard time, I have my family, my friends and my fans to support me, and that's really helpful."
The heiress was the subject of a joke in host Sarah Silverman's opening monologue. When the camera zoomed in on Hilton, she offered no reaction.
Among the night's big winners were actors Johnny Depp and Sacha Baron Cohen. Depp was honored for Best Performance for "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest." That film also won Best Movie.
Cohen, meanwhile, got Best Comedic Performance for his role in "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."
"Unfortunately, Borat can't be here tonight," he said. "He's been feeling the pressures of fame and had to check himself into rehab."
Cohen and comedian Will Ferrell won Best Kiss for their scene in "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."
The inaugural award for Best Summer Movie You Haven't Seen Yet went to "Transformers," which hits theaters July 3.
The MTV Movie Awards were televised live for the first time this year. Winners are decided by votes from viewers.
