Santa and the Grinch were among the characters parading Saturday through Columbus and Phenix City.
They were joined by the Central High School band, elves from the St. Joseph Child Development Center in Holy Trinity, soldiers from Fort Benning, beauty queens in coats and crowns, grown men in miniature go-carts and tiny children in caps and mittens.
The 10 a.m. procession of about 170 bands and floats plus about 60 horses took a “reverse route” into Columbus to dodge construction on Phenix City’s Broad Street between Holland Creek and 13th Street.
The parade crossed the Dillingham Street Bridge, turned right on Front Avenue and took an immediate left onto Ninth Street, then turned north on Broadway. After passing through downtown Columbus, it crossed the 13th Street Bridge back into Phenix City.
