Retired Columbus State University Psychology Professor Jeanne Dugas will be leading the Musocgee County Democratic Party next year.
Meeting Monday at Bludau's Goetchius House, local Democrats at first tied 9-9 in voting for Dugas and for John Van Doorn, a CSU assistant professor in political science.
Retired TV anchor Dick McMichael, who was elected the party's second vice-chair, said in a statement that current party chair Alice Pate and former chairman Frank Myers resolved the issue in a private discussion with the two candidates, during which they decided Dugas would serve as the chair and Van Doorn as vice-chair.
The Democratic Party Committee was impressed with Van Doorn's conduct during election night TV interviews, but Van Doorn just joined the party, and Dugas has been a member for years, McMichael said.
Other committee officers for 2009-2010 are Barbara Jackson, secretary, and Judy Brouillette, treasurer.
