Alaun-Miguel Braghtly arrived almost three weeks early to become the first baby born in Columbus in the new year.
“I’m glad it over,” said his mother Romesha Braghtly who delivered Alaun-Miguel at 3:51 a.m. Thursday at The Medical Center. He weighed 5 pounds, 7 ounces and was 18 inches long.
Although her soldier husband was miles away in Kuwait, Braghtly said he was able to talk to her by phone and coach her through the delivery. Edwin Braghtly, 31, just completed a tour of duty in Iraq with the 3rd Cavalry out Fort Hood, Texas. He is expected to arrive back in the United States by Saturday, she said.
Braghtly, 25, has relatives in Columbus and lived in the city while her husband was deployed to Iraq. A former soldier also, she will probably leave in about a month to live in Fort Hood, her husband’s next duty station.
