ATLANTA – The Georgia House elected Glenn Richardson, a Hiram Republican, to his third term as Speaker of the House.
Richardson’s election was not a surprise. He fought off a challenge in the Republican caucus to his post last year from David Ralston.
Richardson was the only person put in nomination for speaker. The Democrats did not place anyone in opposition.
“It is time to put aside the partisan rancor,” said minority leader DuBose Porter, D-Dublin.
Never miss a local story.
Mark Burkhalter, R-Johns Creek, was re-elected speaker pro tem. His nomination was seconded by Columbus Democrat Calvin Smyre.
“Calvin Smyre and DuBose Porter, you guys are great friends,” Burkhalter said. “This will go a long way to making this a better house.”
