Emanuel Jones, an automobile dealer with stores in Columbus, McDonough, Ga. and North Carolina, will hold a news conference in Atlanta Friday to ask for federal funds for minority dealers.
Jones, a Georgia state senator, met with the President-elect Barack Obama's transition team last week in Washington. He is urging the new president, who will be sworn in next week, to allow access to "much-needed funding through the Small Business Administration," according to a news release from the Senate's press office.
The news conference was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was moved to 11 a.m. Friday, according to the news release. Jones could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
He purchased the bankrupt Bill Heard Chevrolet store and Manchester Expressway property in Columbus last month for about $25 million.
