Jasmine Garcia wants to run with the best. The Smiths Station track star has ambitions of being an Olympian, performing her chosen sport on the largest stage it will allow.
That is the primary reason she signed a college letter of intent with the University of Louisiana-Monroe Thursday.
“I made the decision because it’s a very distinguished school and among the schools they compete against, I can race against Olympians,” Garcia said during the signing ceremony at the SSHS auditorium. “It’s a Division I school and I wanted to expand my horizons.”
A multiple-time member of the Ledger-Enquirer All Bi-City teams in cross country and track, Garcia chose Louisiana-Monroe after considering Florida State, Jacksonville State and Troy.
