A Columbus man was killed Saturday night by a hit-and-run driver as he was walking along U.S. 280 East in Phenix City, authorities said.
Matthew Luther B. Swader, 19, of 10 White Haven Court, was struck near 13th Avenue by an unknown vehicle around 10 p.m., said Russell County Coroner Arthur Sumbry.
"He was run over by a vehicle — a hit and run — and then run over by a second vehicle," Sumbry said.
The driver of the second vehicle stopped. Sumbry pronounced Swader dead at 10:50 p.m.

"He received massive blunt force trauma to the entire body," he said.
Swader's body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
Sumbry said he didn't know whether Phenix City Police had any leads about the identity of the hit-and-run driver. Police couldn't be reached for comment Sunday.
