"The Big Read" in which area residents this year are encouraged to read Mark Twain's classic boyhood adventure novel "Tom Sawyer" will begin with a blast 1-4 p.m. Saturday as the Port Columbus Civil War Naval Museum holds an old-fashioned "Rivertown Fair."
The event at the 1002 Victory Drive museum features cannon firing, rides, games and free copies of the book. Admission is free.
The campaign to encourage reading is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts.
