Columbus-based supplemental insurer Aflac's stock was taking a beating Monday morning at the open of the New York Stock Exchange.
The stock was trading at $12.05 per share shortly before 10 a.m., 30 minutes after the market opened. That is down $1.39 per share or more than 10 percent. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up slightly.
Aflac's stock price has been falling since last fall. Today's price is a 52-week low.
Last week, Aflac shares fell $3.32 amid concerns about trouble in the insurance sector and possible issues with the company's investment in European banks.
