Blue Bell Creameries territory manager for Columbus, Jonathan Solvanson, surprised Harris County Carver Middle School teacher Merrill Boynton-Cheyne in front of her students this morning with four half-gallons of her favorite ice cram for being a top 10 finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year.
Solvanson also read a letter to Boynton-Cheyne from Paul Kruse, President and CEO of Blue Bell Creameries.
"At Blue Bell, we believe there is no finer work you can do in this world than be a teacher," said Kruse.
As only a top 10 teacher could respond after the short ceremony, Boynton-Cheyne turned to her students and said, "Alright, now get back to work."
Never miss a local story.
The Blue Bell Creameries wanted the entire student body of over 1000 children to celebrate with Boynton-Cheyne and supplied the school with enough ice cream treats for all of them.
