The Alabama Senate Thursday unanimously approved legislation offered by Attorney General to allow more members of a victim's family to witness an execution. The bill now awaits passage in the House of Representatives where it will need to be approved by the House Judiciary Committee.
Under current law, only two immediate family members of the victim may be present at an execution. The bill would increase that number to eight members of victim's family and eight members of the person to be executed.
"Passage of this legislation will provide some measure of comfort and closure to grieving families who have suffered deep personal tragedy as well as a long wait for justice."
