The Muscogee County Autism Support Group is seeking sponsors to help raise funds to open the Autism Hope Center in Columbus.
MCASG President Lisa Jenkins said the goal is to build a facility in Columbus that can provide the medical and educational treatment these children need. The research-based center will be directed by Dr. Caroline Gomez, who has 25 years of experience serving children with autism and their families.
To help raise funds, the group is holding its first Autism: We All Fit 3-mile Walk/Run on Oct. 6 in Uptown Columbus. It's hoped the event will help raise $300,000 needed to open the center, Jenkins said.
Contributions also can be made in other ways, including donation of refreshments, food and other help.
Teams may be formed to walk or run and raise a minimum of $100. For more information about the event and to register online go to www.mcasg.net.
