Two people were shot Thursday night during a home invasion at Southside Court Apartments.
Columbus police responded to a call at the complex about 11:30 p.m. There they discovered a man lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound to the groin as well as a man inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the stomach.
Investigators later determined two suspects — both armed with handguns — had entered the apartment and tied up the two people who were inside. The suspects were searching the apartment when a man knocked on the door.
It wasn’t long after the suspects let the man into the apartment that the visitor realized something was wrong, police said. He attempted to flee, but a fight broke out and both he and one of the gunmen were shot during the skirmish.
The visitor was injured in the groin and one of the suspects was shot in the abdomen. The uninjured suspect fled the scene.
The injured suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken to The Medical Center, where he is in critical condition after undergoing surgery for his wound. The man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his groin is undergoing treatment at The Medical Center, police said.
Police have identified a person of interest in this case, however, no one had been charged as of Friday night.
