Military Spouse Magazine will announce its 2009 Military Spouse of the Year recipient today from a pool of five finalists, including Columbus Public Health employee and Navy spouse Christy Kuriatnyk.
The ceremony will take place in Washington, DC at The Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. The announcement will be made some time between noon and 2 p.m.
Kuriatynk is the environmental health program manager for the Columbus Health Department. Her husband, Lt. Commander Alex Kuriatnyk is with the Navy's Civil Engineering Corps.
The MSOY award, sponsored by USAA, recognizes the sacrifice and dedication of military spouses across all branches. The recipient is chosen from among more than 650 reader nominations and 100,000 votes submitted to the magazine based on his/her representation of all spouses and his/her own personal story.
Senior military leaders, wives of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and members of Congress are expected to attend the event which will take place a day before Military Appreciation Day (May 8).
