A Mathews Elementary student was named a National PTA Award of Merit winner.
Third-grader Shelby Ramsay received an award in the intermediate division for her video production illustrating the 2008-2009 contest theme, "Wow..."
She received one of 18 awards of excellence awarded by the organization nationwide. Students had the opportunity to enter in any of six areas: literature, musical composition, photography, visual art, dance choreography and film/video production.
The National PTA Reflections program is an arts recognition program that provides children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade the opportunity to express creativity through the arts. Now in its 40th year, the program attracts an average of 700,000 participants from across the country.
