Debbie Buckner of Columbus who represents House District 130 has been named the Georgia Advocate of the Year by the American Academy of Nurse Practiitioners.
The award was given during the 24th national conference in Nashville, Tenn.
Buckner received her award for because of her strong support towards nursing and health care in Georgia.
She was instrumental in the passage of the NP prescription bill that passed in 2006 and has continued to support legislation that helps to improve patient access to healthcare as our population is aging and there are fewer physicians to take care of the booming population's healthcare needs.

Being recognized by the organization with a State Award of Excellence was Karen Crooke Schwartz a graduate of Columbus High School. She lives in Georgia's Gwinnett County.
