Gary Wortley, chief operations officer of Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, has been selected as the interim dean of Columbus State University's College of Fine and Performing Arts, the university announced.
The college was recently created by President Tim Mescon.
Wortley will assume his new position on July 1.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to be in on the startup of an academic unit focused specifically on the arts,” Wortley said in a CSU news release.

Prior to arriving in Columbus in 2006, Wortley was executive director of the Texas Ballet Theater, the resident professional classical ballet company in Dallas/Fort Worth, and spent more than 22 years in various executive management positions with, EDS (Electronic Data Systems Corp), according to the release.
“Gary has an extensive background in business and the arts and will provide exceptional leadership to this exciting new academic unit,” said CSU President Tim Mescon.
