Columbus is headed back to the state finals after sweeping Carrollton 12-1 and 8-0 on Tuesday at Ragsdale Field.
The Blue Devils will play at Cartersville for the Class AAA state title beginning on Friday.
Columbus scored three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and two more in the seventh to finish off Carrollton in Game 2 at Ragsdale Field.
The Blue Devils also scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead
Matt Taylor and Taylor Wolfe hit back-to-back doubles as Columbus took a 1-0 lead in the first.
Taylor drove in a run with a single in the third.
Brad Barto hit a solo homer in the sixth inning.
Wolfe pitched for Columbus.
Wolfe hit a walk-off three-run homer as Columbus cruised past Carrollton 12-1 in Game 1. The game was halted in the bottom of the sixth due to the 10-run mercy rule.
Columbus scored two runs in the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 8-1 lead at Columbus State’s Ragsdale Field.
Freshman Kyle Carter hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to give Columbus a 2-0 lead.
Carter’s homer to right center followed a single by catcher Travis Benn.
Bryce Dial doubled and Bobby Andrews reached on a bunt single in the third. Both scored on Carrollton miscues later in the inning.
Phil Wise tripled in a run in the fifth.
Taylor started on the mound for Columbus. He went all six innings, allowing just three hits and five walks while striking out five.
Andrews went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Dial was 2-for-4 with a homer to go along with his double.
The first pitch of Game 1 had been scheduled for 1 p.m. today, but a heavy thunderstorm hit the area just before noon and pushed the start of the game back 90 minutes.
After several inches of rain fell in the past few days at Columbus High's Randy Jordan Field, it was too wet to try and play there today.
