Local "American Idol" hopefuls won't have to travel too far to audition for the reality TV competition this year.
Auditions for the ninth season of "Idol" come to Atlanta's Georgia Dome Thursday, June 18. Registration is June 16 and 17, also at the Georgia Dome.
Registration is when you pick up the wristband that lets you audition. Remember, you won't be singing in front of Simon Cowell and friends at this phase of the competition. You sing in front of a panel of "Idol" insiders. If you get the OK, you'll receive a pass that advances you to another round of auditions, held on a later date.
Auditions are open to singers 16-28 who are not currently under a recording contract.
Specific times for the Atlanta auditions have not yet been posted on the official "Idol" Web site.
This is the fifth time "Idol" auditions have stopped in Atlanta. The most recent time was Season 6.
Many big "Idol" names have auditioned in Atlanta, including Clay Aiken, Fantasia Barrino and Jennifer Hudson.
