"The Bachelorette" Jillian Harris eliminated Mark, a 26-year-old pizza shop owner from Denver, from ABC's reality dating show. Ed, a 29-year-old technology consultant from Chicago, also left the show. Ed said his boss was pressuring him to return to work.
"I realize I'm letting you down. I feel like I would be letting five or six people down if I didn't leave," Ed said.
"I'm glad we're figuring this out now," a tearful Jillian told Ed. "Promise me something. That when you do find the person you're crazy about. Don't let work get in the way," Jillian said.
Mark said, "I've always just kind of struggled with relationships... I really had strong feelings, but I couldn't get past my own barriers." Though he acknowledged his own reluctance to talk about his feelings, he said he was being more honest then some of the other guys. "I'm not here to sell records, and I don't have a girlfriend," Mark said.
Ed was upset when he was packing. "Leaving today is the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life... I feel frustrated with myself that I've let this happen, and I'm sad to go," Ed said.
"No matter if you're wearing the pants or not it doesn't protect you from getting your heart broken," Jillian said. She also wondered if this would make the other guys consider returning home. "Am I good enough for somebody to sacrifice that?"
"I don't think I realized how much I liked Ed until he left," Jillian told host Chris Harrison before the rose ceremony.
Those receiving roses:
Reid, a 30-year-old real estate agent from Philadelphia
Kiptyn, a 31-year-old California business developer
Robby, a 25-year-old bartender
Jake, a 31-year-old pilot from Dallas
Tanner P., a 30-year-old Dallas financial analyst with a foot fetish
Michael, a 25-year-old New York break-dancing instructor
Jesse, a 27-year-old wine maker from California
Wes, a 32-year-old musician from Texas
Here's a recap:For the first date of the evening, Jillian took 25-year-old Michael on a zip-line date in Whistler, British Columbia. The break dancing instructor made 29-year-old Jillian feel like she was 19 again. That was a good feeling. After the adventure Jillian and Michael went to have a private dinner in a wine cellar. Jillian decided she wanted to get to know Michael better and gave him a rose at the end of the date.
The topic of conversation on the group date was which guys — if any —were in relationships. At last week's rose ceremony Tanner told Jillian that some guys still had girlfriends back home. Monday Tanner wouldn't tell Jillian who he thought "was there for the wrong reasons," but in an interview he warned Jillian to watch out for Wes. Wes acknowledged that being on the show was good publicity for his new CD, but that his feelings for Jillian were genuine.
After drinking at an ice bar, Jillian wandered off with Kiptyn. After asking him to touch her butt, it was wet from the snow, Jillian was particularly friendly. Jillian asks, "I like you, do you like me?" He does. "I can't even process what he's saying because he's so cute," she said in an interview.
Next she spoke with Reid. She asked him about where he saw himself in five years. He said married with kids. Right answer. Then she asked whom in the house had a girlfriend. "They all have girlfriends. Multiple girlfriends." Reid joked. During Jillian's conversation with Ed, he mentioned that his boss was putting a lot of pressure on him to leave the show and come back to work. At the end of the date, Ed got the rose. "I want you to decide whether you want to keep this rose or whether you want to give it back, Jillian said.
Jillian's one-on-one date with 27-year-old winemaker Jesse was a trip on a ski plane and a conversation atop a glacier looking over snow-covered mountains. "Regardless of what happens, I'll remember this for the rest of my life. I'm so glad you picked me for this date," Jesse said. Jillian asked Jesse to picture himself at 35. "Successful. Making wine. Having a wine bar. Living in a great house. Wife and kids," he answered. Jillian said she wanted kids in the next three or four years. Did that scare Jesse? No. Jesse was scared that Jillian would want her potential fiance to move to Vancouver. He was pleased when Jillian said she would relocate for her boyfriend. The only disagreement was about Jillian's voice. Jesse said it was soothing, sexy and raspy. Jillian said, "It's like nails on a chalk board. It sounds like I've been drinking whiskey since I was born."
