A Seale, Ala. man was charged with murder Monday in connection with an attack at a Columbus Waffle House.
Dustin Ray Horton, 21, was arrested at a Russell County home around 11:30 a.m., said Columbus Police Lt. Charles Kennedy. He’s accused of causing the death of Scott Jeremy Drago, 36, who was found around 3:10 a.m. Sunday lying 15 feet from his truck that was in the parking lot of the restaurant at 6751 Veterans Parkway.
At 9:46 p.m., he was pronounced dead at The Medical Center, Lt. Charles Kennedy said.
“He got into a fight up there at the Waffle House,” Kennedy said. “The injury resulted when he hit the ground, when he hit the pavement.”Drago once worked as a deputy with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones said. Drago left the department around two years ago.
“I would characterize him as a very competent deputy,” Jones said. “He was on his game.”
