NeighborWorks Columbus is applying for a Neighborhood Stabilization Program grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The grant is for $15 million, and it will go to stabilize as many 18 different census tracts in the Columbus area. The plan will include purchasing vacant, abandoned and foreclosed properties. The lots will be rehabbed and sold to those earning from below 50-120 percent of the area's median income.
This program was established by Section III of Division B of the Housing and Economic Recovery Act (HERA) in 2008. This program provided money to help redevelop abandoned and foreclosed homes.
The draft of the application is at the NeighborWorks Columbus Web site and can be seen at the office, 18 11th St. until Sept. 30.
