Auburn police arrested two Atlanta men Thursday for allegedly trying to cash stolen checks.
Mohammed Rasheed, 55, and Darius Smith, 24, were charged with possession of a forged instrument after officers responded to a bank in the 100 block of North College Street in reference to two men attempting to cash stolen checks. The checks had been taken from an Opelika business Wednesday, police said.
Rasheed and Smith were taken into custody a short distance from the bank and charged.
Both men were transported to the Lee County Detention Center.
